Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

vinyard
Shfeyah Winery

Tremendous quality for its price of 21 USD. This wine has a narrow, perhaps light, tannic nose. The palate doesn't dissapoint with vanilla, oak and berries. The long finish is garnished with slightly burnt sugared oranges. This is the best wine I've had so far this year.

2007 La Terra Blanco

country
Spain

Yellow green color. Hints of melon, lime and lemon on the light nose. Light bodied, smooth and nutty. Low acid and short finish. This is a dirt cheap wine (about 6 USD) we bought for cooking, but it really impresses for this price point.

Dark color, but not too dark. Herbal nose with thyme and oregano. An interesting nose, but there the interest stops. This wine doesn't contain its 13.9% alcohol and lacks balance. I doubt that its young age is to blame because the wine also lacks firm tannins. No finish to speak of. At double the price of a Golan Winery table dry red, I'll give this wine a pass.

This rosé has a rusty color to it. Tight nose reminiscent of Cognac or Calvados. Candy apple on the palate with good acid and bitter finish. Assaf Winery does it again.

Nice color (they know this and made the labels transparent), presented in a slim screw top bottle. Strawberry jam on the nose. Contains its 14% alcohol well. Strawberry creamsicle on the palate. Light body, no finish. Well made, but not very profound.

Psagot Boutique Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

Nice color. Both the nose and palate bring iodine, cherry, cough-syrup, oak and vanilla. Nice tannins, medium finish. This is a solid Cab and perhaps still too young. I'm guessing that there our others out there at 3/4 the price which equal it.

There is a bit of paint-thinner on the nose, but overall dominated with a rich black-fruit jam with raisins. Hits the palate with cranberries, pomegranate and cherries and transitions to a nice dry finish. A very enjoyable Israeli Merlot.

Gamla Brut

Very pale color. Thin on the nose, with some melon, grass and woodiness. Once again very light on the palate with a green apple core bitterness. Overall well balanced and well priced, but not winning me over.

Very pale color. Banana, starfruit and guava on the nose, together with some tobacco. A lot of tobacco bitterness on the palate. Well balanced in terms of alcohol and finish but just too bitter.

Lemon color. Artichoke hearts and lemon on the nose. Very light on the palate at first, then develops lemon and finally tobacco and cigars for the finish. The finish is also quote dry and long.

Brown in color. Oak and cherry on the nose. More oak, cherries and walnuts on the pallet. Strong tannins, maybe too strong. Nice dry finish. A strong effort worthy of a good hamburger.

Yellow green color. Citrus nose. Lime on the pallet and a nice finish. A bit one dimensional, but great with sushi.

Light color. Raisins and burnt wood on the nose. Dark chocolate on the pallet with an orange chocoloate finish. Strong tannins. Overall a very enjoyable, over-the-top wine.

Hay color. Chicken breast and hay on the nose. Grassy and floral notes with a bitter and sour finish. Impressive Israeli effort.

Nail polish remover and wood on the nose. Firm, black coffee flavours with a lot of wood chips. I imagine that this is what juice made from expensive furniture would taste like.

Very pale color. Contains its alcohol well. Artichoke nose. Chicken fat, green vegetables on the pallet. But thin and one dimensional. Unbalanced finish.

Overall pleasant and elegant wine with a little too much heat for me. I also felt times when it would "disappear" from my palate while I was drinking it.

Pale golden color. White roses on the nose, but a weak nose. Silky, rich butter and ripe apricots on the pallet. Buttery, pleasant finish.

Dark in color, but not mesmerizing. Dark cherry liqueur on the nose. The nose is a little to "hot" for me. Heavy tannins, dark cherry and a bit of dirt. Bitter vegetable finish, like the bitter parts of an artichoke.

Both the nose and palate are a tad too fruity for me. The tannins aren't strong enough to balance out the fruit.
